All PTA Take Your Family to School Week® Award applications are due by 5:00 p.m. EDT, Friday, October 28, 2011. Encourage your units to plan events welcoming families into the school February 12–18, 2012 and apply for a $1,000 grant.
All applications must be submitted online and are subject to competitive review. Only local PTAs in good standing may apply.

To promote childhood health and wellness, National PTA created Healthy Lifestyles Month. Throughout the month of November, PTAs nationwide participate in PTA Healthy Lifestyles Month by conducting programs and events that promote health education,

Legislative Issues Conference
Friday, October 28, 6:30 PM – 9:00 PM & Saturday, October 29, 12:30 PM – 5:00 PM
The purpose of the conference is to hear about and discuss legislation that is currently before the State House and Senate that affects our children.
We have invited some of our legislators who either Chair or sit on the Education Committee to come and speak regarding any of this proposed legislation and its intended effect on Alaska’s children.
We will also review the Alaska State PTA 2011 legislative platform determine if there are any other issues that need to be brought forward to the February fly-in to Juneau.
The purpose of the conference is to hear about and discuss legislation that is currently before the State House and Senate that affects our children.
We have invited some of our legislators who either Chair or sit on the Education Committee to come and speak regarding any of this proposed legislation and its intended effect on Alaska’s children.
We will also review the Alaska State PTA 2011 legislative platform determine if there are any other issues that need to be brought forward to the February fly-in to Juneau.

Alaska PTA Vacant Positions
This is an opportunity for you to develop new talents or strengthen old ones. You will have the opportunity to network with leaders and members throughout Alaska in teleconferences, and face-to-face meetings. Gain insights that will help you in your own community and obtain a bigger picture of how the State PTA enhances all of Alaska as well. It is a great opportunity to serve and have fun! 4th Vice President – Parent Engagement
Manage the federal grant for Alaska PTA’s Parent Engagement Program. Work with the Alaska PTA Parent Engagement Program Director to promote parent and family engagement in education. Build partnerships and programs with other agencies in the state. Look for additional funding to continue the program.
Region Vice Presidents
Build leadership to strengthen PTA Programs; stimulate growth in PTA membership and participation; assist in the establishment and support of new units; advise and assist local unit presidents of required financial reports and resources available to help them improve their administrative efficiency; assist local units in preparing bylaws for approval if requested; act as a liaison between the local unit and the Alaska PTA; provide assistance in the resolution of conflict within and between local units if requested; contact each unit within the region.

There are several positions opening up on the Alaska State PTA Board of Managers. They involve openings on the Executive Committee, Region Vice Presidents and Standing Committees. There is something for everyone!
1st Vice President – Membership
Promote and coordinate the state membership program; give a membership report at each Board of Managers meeting; complete the National PTA State Membership Report on a monthly basis, take actions to notify units of good standing according to procedures outlined in the standing rules; arrange for membership awards; present awards and distribute certificates and prizes to those not in attendance; conduct membership workshops at the Alaska PTA Convention and as needed.
